USHER: YES, I BABYSAT BEYONCÉ ...
Usher is sticking to his story that he was briefly Beyoncé's babysitter in the early '90s, although he's not comfortable calling himself a "manny."
The singer-songwriter and upcoming Super Bowl Halftime performer appeared on Shannon Sharpe's "Club Shay Shay" podcast, released on Wednesday. The topic of him babysitting Beyoncé came up once again. Usher had previously mentioned in August that he looked after Beyoncé when she was around 11 or 12 years old, but he didn't mention if he was paid for it.
During the podcast, Sharpe asked him about being "Beyoncé's nanny." Usher jokingly suggested he'd be a "manny," but ultimately, he felt it was a bit much to give himself that title. The 45-year-old explained that Beyoncé and Destiny's Child came to Atlanta before they officially became Destiny's Child. Usher, in his teens at the time, was tasked with watching over the kids while they hung out at musician Daryl Simmons' house.
According to Usher, his responsibilities were simple: make sure none of the girls broke anything. It seems more like being a chaperone on a school field trip than a full-time caretaker.
Usher also claimed to have an eye for talent, stating that he saw a "brilliance and brightness" in Beyoncé and the rest of Destiny's Child that he believed would lead them to success. He expressed admiration for Beyoncé's achievements, saying, "[It's] great for my sister to see that she’s done so amazing and continues to thrive and just get bigger and better."
