Viral Wedding Proposal Gone Wrong: Bride Admits She Was a "Brat" After Spoiler Alert

A recounting of a Utah woman's imperfect wedding proposal experience drew millions of fascinated viewers to a handful of TikTok posts.

Rebecca Gordon, a schoolteacher from Utah, admitted to being a "brat" after her dream wedding proposal was ruined by a loose-lipped family member, causing her to react poorly when the surprise was spoiled.

Gordon shared her story on social media, confessing that she "cried for like an hour" and felt "sad" after her father revealed the proposal plans ahead of time. Unable to contain his excitement, Gordon's father spilled the beans, leading her to text her boyfriend, Carson Peterson, saying, “I don’t want to be proposed to tonight.”

Instead of enjoying the day as Peterson had planned, Gordon spent her time playing video games and lounging around the house, as reported by The Sun.

After being by girlfriend Rebecca Gordon told not to propose, Carson Peterson decided to take his chances anyway.

In a TikTok post that garnered 7.1 million views and 1.1 million likes, Gordon wrote, “POV you told your boyfriend not to propose because someone spoiled the surprise and it made you sad.” The video showed the couple in a picturesque green field with snowcapped mountains in the background, revealing Peterson's persistent plan to propose despite the earlier mishap.

"My fiancé told me I gave him a headache from yelling because I won [the game] and he needed to go for a 'walk' to cure his headache," Gordon recounted. "Turns out he was proposing regardless. I’m such a brat."

The video captures the couple hugging, Gordon tearing up, and then displaying her diamond engagement ring and a bouquet of white roses. Her initial sadness gave way to awe as she realized the effort Peterson had put into the proposal, which included hundreds of white roses scattered in the field.

Gordon had been upset that a family member had ruined the surprise — and spent the whole day gaming indoors.

The slightly imperfect yet beautiful moment resonated with viewers, many of whom shared their own experiences of ruined surprises and expressed support for Gordon.

One commenter shared, "Our engagement was absolutely destroyed because our 'friends' thought it would be fun to ruin it for me... totally wish this would’ve been the scenario for me."

Another follower wrote, "People who ruin surprises like this suck but the ring is gorg and I’m so happy for you girl."

Gordon's story received numerous supportive comments, with one person saying, "Girl there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with what you did. My proposal got ruined and I cried so hard about it!"

Peterson himself chimed in the comments, humorously describing the day as "the most stressful day ever," to which Gordon replied, "Thank you for being so patient."
