A 43-year-old Washington woman, Teri Suiter, was arrested and charged after allegedly stabbing both her adult daughter and her mother in a violent domestic assault that occurred Monday in Spokane Valley. Suiter is accused of attacking her family members in an apparent act of revenge, claiming she wanted to “get even” for them “ruining” her life.
According to court documents, the incident unfolded when Suiter entered her daughter’s bedroom, where her daughter and young grandchild were present. Suiter allegedly stabbed her daughter, who attempted to protect the child during the attack. As the daughter tried to fight her off, Suiter reportedly stabbed her a second time in the back and chest.
After leaving the room, Suiter allegedly went on to assault her own mother in another part of the house. The daughter reported hearing her grandmother scream and ran to assist her, only to hear Suiter say, “I hope you die.” Suiter then reportedly stabbed her mother, pushed her down the stairs, and stabbed her again.
In an effort to stop the attack, Suiter’s daughter used a baby gate to fend her mother off. According to statements given to law enforcement, Suiter’s mother heard her daughter say during the assault, “I’m going to get even with you for ruining my life.”
Responding officers found Suiter still armed with a knife. She refused to comply with orders to drop the weapon and threatened to harm herself, prompting deputies to deploy a Taser to subdue and safely apprehend her.
Both victims were transported to the hospital with serious injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening. They told police that the attacks were completely unprovoked.
During Suiter’s first court appearance on Tuesday, a representative for the victims read a statement expressing deep concern for their safety. The spokesperson stated, “This is not a sane woman. She has always told me that she wants me dead. This is not her first time being violent, and I want this charged at its highest ability. She was living with us at the time and it just shows that if she could do this to her mother and daughter, she can do it to anyone. There is no telling what she is capable of.”
Suiter has been charged with two counts of assault and is being held on $500,000 bail. Her next court date is scheduled for May 6.
