A 67-year-old woman died mid-air on an easyJet flight earlier this week, prompting an emergency diversion to Spain as passengers and crew attempted to save her life.

The woman experienced a medical emergency shortly after departing from Tenerife, Spain, for John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, England, at approximately 6:45 p.m. local time on Tuesday, March 25. Fellow passengers and flight crew suspected she had suffered cardiac arrest. Three individuals on board, including a nurse, provided emergency medical assistance, performing CPR as the plane rerouted to northern Spain.

Eyewitnesses reported that the three passengers took turns performing CPR for 50 minutes in an effort to revive the woman. One of the responders, who was traveling with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law, described how flight staff provided an oxygen tank and a defibrillator while he, a nurse, and a physiotherapist attempted resuscitation. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead onboard. Upon landing, local authorities, paramedics, and investigators boarded the aircraft before allowing passengers to disembark.

The woman was traveling with her husband at the time of the incident. easyJet confirmed that the flight, EZY3366, was diverted to Santiago–Rosalía de Castro Airport in northern Spain due to a medical emergency. The airline stated that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew are always a priority and that the crew, along with a medical professional on board, did everything possible to assist. The company has since remained in contact with the woman’s family and continues to offer support.

This incident follows a similar medical emergency last month when an easyJet flight from Egypt to England made an emergency landing in Greece after the pilot reportedly collapsed mid-flight. The aircraft, en route from Hurghada to Manchester on February 8, was diverted to Athens after the first officer performed a routine landing in accordance with standard procedures. Paramedics met the aircraft upon arrival.
