The legal representative of Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba, wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (popularly known as Mohbad), has accused many individuals advocating for “Justice for Mohbad” of using the movement for personal financial gains rather than genuinely seeking justice for the deceased artist.

In a statement titled “Mohbad’s Death: Facts and Fiction,” Kabir Akingbolu, Esq., of Salawu, Akingbolu & Co. law firm, alleged that those leading the Justice for Mohbad campaign have been spreading falsehoods against Wunmi while profiting from the harassment she faces both online and offline.

Akingbolu claimed that Wunmi had been falsely accused of pushing her husband down a staircase, a narrative that he described as “a concoction of lies and manipulation of facts.” He further argued that the Justice for Mohbad movement is dominated by opportunists who have monetized the tragedy by spreading misleading narratives about Wunmi.

“Majority of those crying foul under the caption of ‘Justice for Mohbad’ are just looking for what to eat. In other words, it is justice for their pockets because they collect a lot of money from those behind the harassment and bullying of the late singer,” Akingbolu stated.

Akingbolu pointed out several inconsistencies in the accusations against Wunmi, stating that multiple witnesses at the Coroner’s Inquest—including Mohbad’s friend Ayobami Sadiq, Spending, Adura, the nurse Fiyisayo Ogedengbe, and Wunmi herself—were present when the late singer received an injection and suffered an immediate reaction.

He questioned, “How powerful can Wunmi be to command all these people to keep quiet and cover up a murder?”

Akingbolu also raised concerns about Mohbad’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, questioning why he initially opposed delaying his son’s burial but later started advocating for justice. He argued that if the burial had not been rushed, an immediate autopsy would have determined the cause of death, but that opportunity was lost.

Additionally, he dismissed claims of a CCTV recording showing Wunmi pushing Mohbad, stating that testimonies at the inquest confirmed that the CCTV was non-functional.

Akingbolu criticized social media influencers such as Kemi Olunloyo and Yomi Fabiyi, who have pushed conflicting theories about Mohbad’s cause of death.

“Kemi Olunloyo claimed Mohbad’s carotid arteries were punctured by a broken iron railing after being pushed, while Yomi Fabiyi alleged his head hit the stairs and got broken. Who is lying, and who is believing these tissues of lies?” he questioned.

He also referenced the case of Damola Ayinde, who impersonated Adura, Mohbad’s younger brother, and confessed to lying for financial gain. Ayinde is currently standing trial at the magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos.

Akingbolu accused Mohbad’s father of abandoning his demand for a DNA test on Liam, Mohbad’s son, after Wunmi’s legal team formally invited him to submit samples.

“Why did Mr. Joseph Aloba, who had been calling for DNA, suddenly disappear when invited to submit samples?” he asked.

Akingbolu highlighted a February 25, 2025, ruling from the Yaba Magistrate Court, which cleared Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy of any involvement in Mohbad’s death based on advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Lagos.

However, the DPP has ordered the prosecution of the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and Mohbad’s friend, Ayobami Sadiq, for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Akingbolu also addressed reports of a planned sponsored protest against the court ruling on February 27, 2025.

“Every citizen has the right to protest, but if they choose to stage a naked dance on the streets, no reasonable Nigerian will take them seriously,” he said.

He concluded that the press release was necessary “to expose the lies and blackmail being orchestrated under the guise of Justice for Mohbad.”

Since Mohbad’s passing on September 12, 2023, his death has been surrounded by widespread speculation, protests, and counter-accusations, with viral videos suggesting he suffered harassment before his untimely demise.

While some have focused on Naira Marley and Sam Larry as suspects, others have directed accusations toward Wunmi, fueling a contentious battle of narratives surrounding the late singer’s death.
