Horrifying footage captured the moment a young fitness enthusiast in Indonesia fell to her death after stumbling backward off a treadmill and tumbling out of a third-story window. The incident occurred at a gym in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday.

Security camera footage shows the 22-year-old woman working out on a treadmill near the end of a long line of machines inside the crowded gym. After stopping and allowing the belt to move her backward, she suddenly stumbled straight toward an open window directly behind the equipment.

The woman had only been using the treadmill for about 30 minutes when she fell to her death.
The woman had only been using the treadmill for about 30 minutes when she fell to her death.

The video shows her attempting to grasp the window frame before plummeting three stories. Despite being rushed to the hospital with serious head injuries, doctors were unable to save her life. An autopsy revealed extensive bruising and lacerations to her head.

Local reports identify the deceased as a 22-year-old who had attended the gym with her younger sibling and boyfriend. She had chosen to use the treadmill on the top level, declining her boyfriend's invitation to work out with him on the second floor. She had only been exercising for 30 minutes when the accident occurred.

The Pontianak City Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the incident. Authorities noted that the treadmill’s position, only about two feet from the window, created a "dangerous" situation.

In response to the tragedy, the gym issued an apology to the woman’s family and closed its business for three days.
