Young Girl Rescued After Suffering Severe Abuse in Lagos

A 12-year-old girl, Chidera, has been rescued after enduring extreme physical abuse, including severe bruises and burns, allegedly inflicted by her stepmother in Ipaja, Lagos State.

According to reports, Chidera lost her biological mother, leaving her in the care of her stepmother, who allegedly subjected her to relentless mistreatment at their home on Faith Odunaike Street, Ipaja, Lagos State.

Recently, the stepmother allegedly locked Chidera alone in the house and traveled, abandoning her in a vulnerable state. Concerned neighbors, fearing for the girl's safety and well-being, used a ladder to gain entry into the house, where they found her emaciated and covered in multiple injuries.

Following public outcry and the viral hashtag #RescueChidera, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) intervened. With the support of the Ipaja Police Station, Chidera was rescued from the abusive environment.

Her stepmother has since been arrested, and authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken to ensure justice for Chidera
