Young Man Found Dead Inside a Transformer Enclosure in Makurdi Community

Terhide Garfa, a young man, was found dead inside a transformer enclosure in the Kanshio community of Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday afternoon.

Garfa's body was discovered within the fenced area surrounding the transformer around 3:45 p.m. Residents were puzzled as to how he managed to gain access to the secure area.

Nick, a local resident, recounted, "Someone said they heard him mention that he wanted to speak to his mother or he would kill himself. The next thing we knew, people found his lifeless body near the transformer."

Dr. Adakole Elijah, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), described the incident as strange and unsettling. "The transformer was fully fenced, and we cannot comprehend how someone could enter the area. Whether it was a case of suicide or attempted vandalism is unclear," he stated. Elijah emphasized that JED has consistently warned people to stay away from its installations.

Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Garfa's death.
